MULTIMODETA / 3rd semester 2024
/ studio led by Ing. arch. Jan Hora, Ing. arch. Georgi Dimitrov
/ winning studio of Bohuslav Fuchs Award

As part of the studio I collaborated with Vendula Florková on the reconstruction of the Modeta textile factory in town Jihlava and the revitalization of its surroundings. The site and building are surrounded on three sides by a zoo, are currently deteriorating, and are searching for a new purpose. We decided to orient the site towards the park and the city center, considering these changes as permanent. However, the modifications inside the building are planned as temporary to allow for adaptation to the future needs of the city. We „cleansed“ the building from later built extensions, to create larger public spaces within the site.

For spatial modularity, we removed partitions within the building and focused on the concept of thermally insulated towers. The goal of these towers is to efficiently use the factory‘s vast spaces while avoiding unnecessary heating costs, as the building is not insulated.

The concept of heated towers influenced the architectural solution. By removing partitions and separations, we created open spaces complemented by wooden modular constructions. We designed the proposal to be efficient, inexpensive, and demountable, with minimal impact on the original structure, while allowing for flexible use.

GROUND FLOOR - in winter serves as winter garden for exotic plants from ZOO

3RD FLOOR - sauna centrum

2ND FLOOR - makerspace

GROUND FLOOR - in summer opens into the courtyard

GROUND FLOOR

The ground floor accommodates the original Modeta textile factory, providing sufficient space for its current operations. It also features a restaurant and cafeteria, addressing the lack of dining options in the Zoo area. This space opens to the exterior in summer, while in winter, it serves as a winter garden for exotic plants. An indoor BMX and skate hall is also located on this level.

2ND FLOOR

The 2nd floor houses shared workshops, designed as a 'community garage' for people who lack such space at home. This makerspace is equipped with machinery for woodworking, metalworking, and painting, as well as facilities for 3D printing, screen printing, and a textile studio.

3RD FLOOR

The 3rd floor features sauna centrum, with roof garden.

PHYSICAL MODEL 1:25

TUFT = KLBKO
This conceptual work was created as a response to a final assignment we received just a few days before the studio week. The goal was to design a memorial to textile production that would naturally fit into our concept of the building’s reconstruction and its surroundings. The assignment allowed creative freedom – it could be a memorial, a work of art, an architectural element, or a design. The project was to be developed on 3x A3 sheets.

However, the condition was that the design had to have a physical form and be firmly anchored in the given space. I decided to place it directly on the chimney, which itself acts
as a prominent and monumental element.
